Public Relations: Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has been the latest gossip for years about her bad drinking habits and checking into rehab. To help Lindsay get noticed, but in a positive way she could help out with environmental or charity organizations. She needs to make it known to the public that she is trying to give back to society. She should make her efforts known world wide so that people perceive her in a positive manner. When most people think of Lindsay they think of her outrageous drinking habits. She could attend meetings to control how much she consumes, but she needs people to know and understand that she is attempting to clean herself up. People have an image of Lindsay as being a party girl who frequently goes out and makes a fool of herself because she is so drunk. To change the way people view her, she should rest low for a while and stay out of popular hot spots for paparazzi. Even if she was photographed drinking a non alcoholic beverage at a club or party would clean up her image that viewers have of her. Although she would still be out "partying" at least the readers would see that she is not consuming alcohol at the unhealthy rate she used to be and is attempting to change her lifestyle. She could also do meet and greets with younger fans to show her appreciation for the popularity and that she does care what the younger audience thinks about her. She needs to set an example to the younger girls who "idle" her because they see her as someone they want to be when they grow up. If they see her in magazines partying like a rock star, then when they grow up they have a mind set of being just like their idle. Lindsay Lohan could do so much with her life to turn it around. She just would need to take the time and evaluate the things in her life that she needs to change before making any drastic changes.

Advertising: Superbowl Ads

In advertising, the creators try to grab the viewers attention by having the ad be about something funny or to guilt people into thinking a certain way. When it comes to ads for the Superbowl I find that ads that have a humor message appeal are most effective. The ads that deal with humor and beer are the ones that receive the most attention during the football season. The commercial I found to be very funny and effective was the one with Will Ferrell (actor from Semi Pro) advertising for Bud Light beer. The commercial was shown during the Superbowl as an attempt to tell the viewers to drink Bud Light because the actor drinks it and you should to. I had seen the movie Semi Pro with Will in it, so I found this particular commercial to be hilarious. If the viewer has seen the movie and knows and likes Will Ferrell, they will find the commercial to be equally funny. This is a commercial that is effective if the viewer enjoys Bud Light (or any beer for that matter) and has seen the movie. The advertisers who put on the commercials during the Superbowl come up with interesting ads to catch the attention of consumers that are different and more amusing than anything they have ever seen before. I always enjoy seeing what new ads that are coming out during the football season.

Message Appeal: What works and What doesn't work

I find that the guilt message appeal in ads affects me the most. When I see the various ads that are shown on television about bad smoking habits it makes me think twice about doing those things. One ad I find most effective in making viewers feel guilty about smoking is the ad about a young woman started smoking at an early age of 18 and now she has to use a voice box to speak to her child. It made me so sad to see that happen to very young women. This lady was not very old, I believe she was only 28 or so and she had to speak with help. It is horrible that something that many people engage in everyday can effect some so rapidly. It is scary and makes people wonder whether or not their life is important enough to risk over a cigarette.

The other ad that gets to me is the guy that smokes and lets others take control of his life. The commercial flips through different stages of this guy's life showing the effects people have on what smoking does to him. He had no control over his life, other people did because he smoked. I thought this commercial was sad that he had no control over what he did to his body and what he was willing to risk. At the very end he puts a stop to everything, all the movement of people around him and what they were doing to his body. He was finally through with people telling him how to look, act, and what to say. He decided it was time that he realized what he was doing wrong and he needed to change. I find that several ad messages appeal to people differently. The ads that make me feel guilty about something have the most effect on my emotions and help me make better decisions about things I should and should not do.

The ads that do not work for me are humor ads. They are funny most of the time, but they do not hit me deep down and have a huge effect on me like the guilt ads do. The ads that have fear as a message appeal to me some what, but they do not have as much as an impact. The fear and guilt message appeals have similar effects on me though. In one ad I will think to myself whether or not the message is trying to scare me or guilt me; the emotions are almost similar.
